A Brief History
Parents, musicians, and other and invested members of Lubbock and the surrounding communities formed The Youth Orchestras of Lubbock (YOL) in 2010 to ensure orchestral and chamber music education of the highest artistic caliber for any eligible young musician, regardless of circumstance. The initial YOL Board of Directors’ singular charge was the management of and fundraising for a youth orchestra program to begin functioning in the Fall of 2011, continuing and improving upon the fine legacy of the Lubbock Youth Symphony Orchestra (LYSO). The YOL board maintained that such a program should prioritize our youths’ need for artistic expression, leadership development, personal growth, and scholastic excellence. Since its 2011-2012 inaugural season, YOL has presented seasons that have included two full-length concerts featuring three different orchestras, a weekend workshop each Fall, and multiple performances by the groups in our Chamber Music Program. We are currently at work on the next exciting season, serving some of the most talented, imaginative, diverse, and dynamic young musicians in West Texas.
